We have one of the finest collections of contemporary British crafts in Wiltshire including jewellery, ceramics, glass, sculpture, paintings & artist's prints, photography, and wooden gifts.
At the Bluestone Gallery we have one of the best selections of handmade jewellery to be found in Wiltshire. We display the work of over 60 jewellers, nearly all small independent makers working in a wide variety of styles. Silver jewellery can be found hammered, polished, oxidised and manipulated in dozens of ways, often incorporating beads pearls or stones - aquamarines, moonstones and amethysts are amongst the most popular.
Contemporary ceramics features strongly with a mixture of decorative and functional pieces.
Handblown glass also features strongly with a mix of lead crystal pieces and smaller gift items.
Sculpture comes in a range of real bronze, bronze resin and clay.
On our walls you will find a mix of original paintings & artist's prints.
The work is all carefully chosen to provide a high standard, a wide variety, and a big price range - you can find something for a fiver, or spend a lot more on a special heirloom piece. We believe that a unique work of contemporary craft makes a wonderful gift - it gives pleasure far beyond and far longer than something mass produced. We find it hard to believe but the gallery is now 10 years old! We have some fabulous new work to display, and to celebrate our birthday we are giving away £300 in prizes in our Wiltshire photo competition. It costs nothing to enter and we hope it will inspire you to go out this summer and look at the beautiful area in which we live. We have tried to keep the rules as simple as possible - here they are
BLUESTONE GALLERY PHOTO COMPETITION RULES
- We are looking for images that highlight the area in and around Devizes. It could be a landscape, a photo that shows the character of the town or local village, or a local activity. It could be a tourist hotspot like Avebury or a hidden away place that you have found. We would like originality, interest and style (and maybe humour) in your photo. The technical quality will be considered but is not paramount.
- You can submit up to 3 images, colour or black and white. They must be submitted as jpegs, and not larger than 5 MB please. Submit them to the gallery on disc. If you prefer to email them to us phone the gallery for the address. Submissions can be made from 21st May to 20th September 2010.
- Don't forget to include your name address and contact number. Your images should have a title and details of the location.
- The photos must have been taken this year. You can manipulate your images as much as you like (or not), but leave the exif details intact so we can see when it was taken.
- No professionals please, and no employee or members of their families of the Bluestone Gallery can enter. You retain copyright of your images at all times.
- If your image includes children under the age of 16 you will need written permission of the parents.
- The prizes are £150, £100 and £50 in cash or cheque. The judge's decision is final. The winning photos will be framed and displayed in the gallery. We may also display entries on our website www.bluestonegallery.com.
